Tennis FeaturesĪs the one-time site of the U.S. An amphitheater at one end provides a venue for occasional live concerts and the newest addition is a zero-entry swimming pool adjacent to the Village Plaza for the exclusive use of those who book through Wild Dunes Resort. The Village at Wild Dunes, a plaza really, comprises a restaurant, upscale market/deli, a day spa, and a fitness center on the main level and condominiums with hotel amenities like room service, bellman, and daily maid service on the floors above to either side. The resort looks spiffier than it has in years. Under the current management company, Destination Hotels & Resorts, the pace of development has accelerated. And best of all Charleston was close enough that you could stay at the beach and drive into town for dinner, an historic houses tour, and in spring the WTA's annual Volvo Car Open held on nearby Daniel Island.

Bike lanes and a free on-property shuttle made it easy to get around. There was one superb restaurant not far from the tennis courts.

Do yourself a favor and skip this one, you’ll throw a rock and hit a nicer hotel. To summarize, this is a “resort” in which the rooms are standard, nothing is ever open, and the amenities are incredibly low-rent. One lukewarm hot tub with bath water might suffice if there weren’t 18 million screaming kids in it, but you won’t be that lucky. Almost $1400 for 3 nights would make you believe that management could afford a heated pool, but you’d be mistaken. Don’t be looking for a drink on the beach watching the sunset because it isn’t happening. Oh, and pretty much all of your other options are a solid 10-15 minute drive down the island so hopefully you’re able to squeeze that in before closing. Good luck getting dinner when your check in is at 4:00. Unless you want some drinks, you might be lucky for them to stay open until 7:00. You should know before you book that pretty much everything closes at 5:00. The golf course, incidentally, was probably one of the only things open. I didn’t golf, which seems to be one of the main attractions, so I can’t comment on that. I really try to avoid writing 1-Star reviews but this “resort” made me think it was almost a joke, at times.
